TIP OF YOUR TONGUE

Adam Beall may not be a designer's name on the tip of your tongue, but we want to give you a tip: he did some great designs in the 1980s. Beall was a popular Manhattan-based and Massachusetts born dress designer who opened his house in 1978 and got his big break when Bloomingdale's placed a large order of his debut collection. His day-to-evening philosophy and sexy clothing really gained traction in the early to mid 80s. Willow Bay famously sat for Victor Skrebneski in a Beall design for an Estee Lauder campaign in 1986 (photo above). The dress below of cream silk buttons up the back with capped short leaves and a tulip shaped asymmetric skirt with sexy side slits. It's a very sophisticated and modern design by an American original who we would love to learn more about, since Beall has fans here at Decades. At Decades, we are always attracted to designers that are not necessarily ubiquitous, but have talent that flourished, regardless of their fame.
