WHY OLD LOOKS NEW

This spectacular sequin and paillette evening jacket is nearly 100 years old but it looks thoroughly modern. We have proposed it as a short dress, but it would look spectacular with a droopy tank and slim jeans or over a LBD. Purchased at Marshall & Snellgrove, a distinctive London retail establishment that was inaugurated in 1838. In 1851, the business moved to Oxford Street where its reputation for maintaining an on-site couturier room made it both a prestigious place to shop and work. In the early 20th century an expansion of the business backfired and in 1919 Debenhams took over ownership and kept the heralded yet unprofitable business open through the 1960s when most branches were absorbed into the Debenhams brand.

What does any of this illustrious retail history have to do with you? Everything! This nearly 100 year old jacket looks like a 21st century hot tamale short dress for the modern fashion lover who will sport this with booty heels, sheer hose, and shock admirers when she says her triangle panel sleeve jacket was bought in the 20s...the NINETEEN TWENTIES! We have included a slew of photos, but not too many as any clever designer who follows our blog will certainly find a bounty of inspiration is this outstanding and very vintage piece of fashion herstory.
