THE NEW LBD ISN'T THAT NEW

First, forgive us for not posting for a few days. We had our massively successful trunk show in Saint Louis over the weekend and the ladies really shopped and kept us busy. Thank you Saint Louis! The locals have fantastic style and we raised a lot of money for the Contemporary Art Museum in just a few hours. The last few days at Decades have been very busy too so we are fortunate to be selling up a storm but remiss in blogging up a storm in tandem. Speaking of storms, it's 75 degrees in LA today and we can't imagine how freezing it is in the East Coast...come to LA and put your short shorts on or at least this vintage James Galanos fresh silhouetted LBD and let your legs go bare. This dress is over thirty years old but looks completely modern. The jet bed neck and shoulder epaulets and the overlay of stripped black chiffon give these a very 21st Century Haute Couture quality and look. Mr. Galanos always designed garments that looked as beautiful on the inside as the outside. Quality was paramount and this dress wouldn't be out of place on a runway during the Parisian Couture shows as its completely relevant. The dress has a foundation scoop necked slip and then over it is the dramatic sheer chiffon high neck layer that incorporates the elaborate black jet bead embroidery and has interesting open panels throughout the body of the dress that adds an unexpected dimension of sophistication and movement to the black chiffon. A great designer makes a black dress not look black. This is an example of it. The textures, the shape, the relief make this LBD extraordinary in its use of the shade. Now we propose the next owner will style this dress in a similar manner with bold hued accessories giving this illusion of a dress a technicolor support system.
