Freis First

Diane Freis began designing clothing in the seventies while still a student at UCLA. She eventually moved to the Orient and opened her first boutique in 1978. She has become very well known for her use of exotic prints in vibrant colors, while maintaining a very feminine silhouette.
The dress below is a fine example of the high quality pieces that Freis was designing in the 1980's. The material the dress is made from is navy silk with a floral pattern in fuchsia, purple, royal blue and green, with wisps of cream scattered about. The sleeves and the skirt of the dress have been ruffled with the same silk material. The construction is that of a wrap dress, with a low V neck front, but the dress does not wrap. There is a ruched elastic waist with accompanying navy silk belt. The top has just the right amount of embroidery to make it "pop!" Although we discovered just a few missing bugle beads, our fearless embroiderer is fast at work replacing a few of the missing bugle beads (our embroiderer has worked for Mr. James Galanos and Mr. Bob Mackie -- she is amazing. Besides this, the dress is in great shape and will give you a great shape, too. This dress is very chic 1980 Beverly Hills. Everyone's mom in the 80s wore Diane Freis in Beverly Hills.

Diane Freis embroidered navy silk dress with floral pattern and belt, c. 1980's. Contemporary size 4-6 SOLD
